A Bit about Me

My name is Nicholas Royal; I’m currently a student at the Sae Institute at Brisbane, studying Game Development with a Major in Game Design. My particular interests and skills lie in Level Design and Mechanic integration, at a greyboxing level.

The growing field of Serious Games is a field I am increasingly interested in working with. Working on my first Serious Game "Ethical Dilemma" when approached during my 3rd Studio class, my eyes opened to the world that is teaching, and training with video games.

I’m a creative individual that enjoys adding my own spin to an idea, such as a ninja platformer that I worked on with a group; I enjoyed designing levels that involved complicated actions whilst offering different paths to create a flowing gameplay scenario. Using the brief of ‘Ninja Platformer’, I toyed with the idea of jumping across rooftops and using bamboo as platforms whilst offering high verticality with intense action with enemy placement.

I've worked on a variety of small projects during my study at SAE Institute.
Including:
Gun Blaster Tankship Extreme III Infinity Laser, a one week project with 3 team members, as Level Designer and mechanic developer.
Beer Hunter, a 2 week project with 3 team members, as the Lead Designer.
Censored, a 1 week project, as the Lead Designer and Programmer.
Winter, a 2 week project, as the Lead Designer and Programmer.
Stealth Buddies, a six week project with 2 team members, as the Lead Level Design.
Ethical Dilemma, a 13 week client pitched project, as the Lead Designer and Programmer. This particular prototype is continuing development with the University of Queensland.
